H. C. Luke, Secretary of the Palestine government and acting High Commissioner of Palestine during the disturbances of last August, appeared before the Mandate Commission at yesterday’s session and gave information about the causes of the disturbances with a view of supplementing the material already before it, according to a communique issued by the Commission, holding its sessions behind closed doors.
The communique states that the whole day was devoted to an examination of the Palestine incidents from September, 1928, until August, 1929. In accordance with its program the Commission began a chronological examination of the incidents and a study of their immediate causes. Mr. Luke will continue his testimony at today’s morning session.
The correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learns that the afternoon session dealt mainly with the subject of the garrison in Palestine during the disturbances last Summer. The British representatives cited the disturbances that took place in 1920 and in 1921, stating that they occurred regardless of the presence of the military in the country.
