Bonds originally worth $50,000, but now depreciated in value to $19,595, are bequeathed to Hebrew University in Palestine for the establishment of a Henry Dix and Rachel Dix Fund, according to the will of Henry A. Dix, garment manufacturer who died in Battle Creek, Mich., on June 20, 19##The estate of the late manufacturer, who in 1923 turned over his $1,000,000 business to a group of his employes, was appraised yesterday at the office of the State Transfer Tax Department. The estate was valued at $182,635 gross and $158,938 net.
In his will Dix left $108,200 in bonds to fifteen charitable institutions. This sum has been reduced to $35,562, the present market value of these bonds.
Included among the bequests to institutions are $10,000 to the Beth Abraham Home for Incurables, reduced to $1,413; $10,000 to the Jewish Theological Seminary, reduced to $1,520; $5,000 to the Sydenham Hospital, reduced to $850; $5,000 to the Montefiore Hospital, reduced to $1,928; $5,000 to the Hebrew Free Loan, reduced to $1,158; $5,000 to Sisk University of Nashville, Tenn., reduced to $957.
$5,000 to Tuskegee Institute. Alabama, reduced to $1,568; $5,000 to the Community Church, reduced to $1,312; $4,500 to Temple B’nai Jeshurun, reduced to $450; $500 in cash to the Methodist Episcopal Zion Church; $3,000 to the Bridgeton Hospital of New Jersey, reduced to $740; $3,000 to the Henry Street Settlement Hospital, reduced to $1,207, and $2,200 in cash to the Millville Hebrew Association of New Jersey.
