Key Jewish communities throughout the country have launched preparations for early 1942 campaigns in behalf of the United Jewish Appeal for Refugees, Overseas Needs and Palestine as “a means of strengthening the far-flung front for democracy through increased aid to the millions of Jews who are resisting Nazi persecution in various parts of the world, to the Jews of Palestine fighting at the side of the Allies in the Middle East and to the refugees within our borders who are eager to make a maximum contribution to our nation’s defense program,” it was announced here today by UJA co-cheirmen Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver and Rabbi Jonah Wise.
Jewish communities in Chicago, Tampa, Miami, Birmingham, Louisville, San Antonio, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Syracuse and other cities have already initiated plans for their 1942 drive, the UJA chairmen report.
