Christians of many denominations, Jews, Hindus, Moslems, Buddhists, Chinese, Japanese and adherents of other faiths will tonight join in a celebration of Succoth, Feast of Tabernacles. An All-Faiths Service will be held at eight o’clock tonight at the Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims, Orange and Hicks streets, Brooklyn, under the auspices of the World Fellowship of Faiths in cooperation with the Brooklyn Church and Mission Federation and the Inter-Faith Clergy Association.
Rev. Samuel Af Rafalowitz, a Moslem priest, will give the Call to Prayer. Followers of other faiths who will participate in the opening services are Rev. Herman F. Reissig, Congregational Minister; Kedarnath Das Gupta, a Hindu; Rev. Thomas Haslam, Greek Orthodox priest, and Sri Deva Ram Sukul, a Brahmin of India.
Rev. J. Stanley Durkee, pastor of Plymouth Church, will |read messages from Henry Wallace, Alfred E. Smith, Mary E. Wolley, Gifford Pinchot, Patrick Henry Henry Callahan, Professor Rufus Jones and others.
“Tributes to Our Jewish Neighbors” will be given by Miss Rose Quong of China and Rev. John Howland Lathrop of America. Rabbi B. Leon Hurwitz will speak on “The World Fellowship of Faiths.” Dr. H. Pereira Mendes, Rabbi Emeritus of the Spanish-Portuguese Congregation of New York, will respond for the Jews. Rev. Martin Paul Luther, president of the Brooklyn Church and Mission Federation, will preside. Rev. Sokei-ann Sasaki, Buddhist priest of Japan, will give the benediction.
