Of the 71 Rembrandt canvases owned by Americans, which is estimated to be be about half of the total output of the Dutch artist, 14 are in the possession of Jews. This was revealed when a loan exhibition of the artist’s work was undertaken by the Detroit Institute of Arts, beginning May 2. Paul Warburg, Colonel Michael Friedsam, Jacob Epstein, Frederick Brown and Sir Joseph Duveen are among those possessing one or more of the famous canvases.
