A resolution unanimously backing the Government’s new economic policy was adopted here today by the Secretariat of the dominant Mapai party, after Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion personally appealed to the party leadership to back the policy that resulted from the devaluation of the Israeli pound.
There were still some questions as to how Mapai would back its decision for all-out support of the new economic policy. The main issue concerned the need for lowering the standard of living and preventing high cost of-living-allowances. There was general agreement in Mapai for the need to cut the number of clerks and for greater efficiency in public and other civic institutions.
