An appeal to the Czechoslovak Government to release Mordechai Oren, one of the leaders of the left-wing Mapam Party in Israel who has been arrested in Prague, was voiced here today by Al-Hamishmar, official organ of the Mapam.
The paper carries an editorial assuring Mapam’s friendly attitude toward Czechoslovakia. It points out that Mr. Oren visited Prague for the purpose of “establishing friendly relations between the Mapam Party and the Czech Republic.” Attributing Mr. Oren’s arrest to a “misunderstanding.” the editorial says: “We hope that Czechoslovakia will display sufficient confidence in the Mapam and will release its representative who was on a good-will mission to visit the builders of socialism and the fosterers of world peace.”
