Dr. Moshe Such and other leaders of the new extremist faction in the Mapam Party last night rejected a demand by the party’s central committee that they either disband the faction or resign from any seats in governmental bodies or labor organizations which they held in the name of the party.
At the same time, Dr. Sneh called for a meeting of the Mapam Council to consider the matter. He charged that the central committee’s demands were unlawful because only a national conference of the party has the authority to strip the members of his group of their official positions.
On the question of dissolution of the faction, he stated: “If all factions within the Mapam dissolve, we will follow suit.” He also claimed that the program of his new group was based on Mapam resolutions which announce the party’s cooperation with Zionist organizations. But, he insisted, “the resolutions do not demand Mapam participation in Zionist managing organizations.”
