Three top Mapam leaders have taken the stand that the left-wing party should enter the coalition government currently being formed by Acting Premier Moshe Sharett even if this means participating in a Cabinet with the General Zionists.
This stand was voiced today at a meeting of representatives of the central council of kibbutzim affiliated with the Mapam Party. The leaders–Itzhak Ben Aharon, Itzhak Tabenkin and M. Eankver–declared, however, that the “workers’ parties” must form the base of such a government.
They were opposed by Israel Bar Yehuda and others who felt the time was not yet ripe for joining the government. However, they expressed confidence that the time would come when the Mapai and the Mapam would form a “workers’ government. “
