The central committee of the Mapam Party today turned down a proposal by the Mapai for a single, combined slate of candidates in the forthcoming nationwide municipal elections. The Mapam’s decision was based on the fact that until the Mapam joined the government coalition it would not take any combined election action with the Mapai.
Meanwhile, the Mapai has appointed a four-member committee to negotiate with the Mapam on the latter’s joining the government. The committee consists of: Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett; Finance Minister Eliezer Kaplan; Zalman Aharonovitch, general secretary of the Mapai and chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs Committee; and Pincas Lubianiker, secretary of the Histadrut.
