Arab marauders yesterday shot and killed Itzhak Finkel, watchman for the Tel Yosef settlement of the Emek. Several shots were exchanged between Finkel and his assailants. Police from Ainharod arrived after midnight with pathfinders to search for traces of the assassins. Thirty mounted members of the Transjordanian frontier force are scouring the countryside in cooperation with the civil authorities.
Tracks left by the marauders are said to lead from the village to the hills near Ainharod. The assassins are armed with British rifles, judging from the bullet that killed Finkel, the police report. It is feared that last night’s attack is part of a terrorist campaign planned by the Transjordanian Bedouins who have been reported meeting secretly at Irbid. The attack on British troopers, last Wednesday, who were motoring near Hahalal is thought to be traceable to the same clan of highwaymen.
