Simon Marcovici-Cleja, a well-known Paris financier, is en route to the United States on the Queen Mary with a plan for large-scale emigration of Jews from European countries to Palestine and the Transjordan, it was disclosed here today. His plan, in which he will endeavor to interest American business men and bankers during a projected fortnight’s stay, is to promote emigration on business rather than philanthropic lines.
M. Cleja, hitherto inactive in Jewish affairs, is an officer in the Legion of Honor and has been twice decorated by the French Government. He gained renown as a successful business man in connection with great railway and building contracts in Persia, Yugoslavia and other countries. The Queen Mary is scheduled to arrive in New York on Monday.
