There has been no change in our attitude toward Palestine, Secretary of State George C. Marshall told his press conference today.

Marshall was asked if statements contained in his letter to Congressman Jacob ?vits and 29 other Republican representatives, released yesterday, signified any change in the attitude of this government toward Palestine. He replied that there is no change in policy, but that we are just not pressing our point of view at this time. We believe, he said, that the matter should be settled at a high level at the special United Nations Assembly on Palestine.

We are concerned, he said, with the proper creation of a committee to investigate the problem and with giving directions to that committee. A committee composed of neutrals other than the great powers will have the best chance of reaching an acceptable conclusion, he declared.

Asked if his statement that our policy has not changed toward Palestine infferred that the U.S. still favors the admission of 100,000 Jewish refugees to Palestine, the Secretary repeated that all he could say was that we had not changed our views but were just not pressing them at this time.
