A petition for a permanent injunction to restrain the Carroll County, Maryland, School Board from distributing copies of the New Testament in the public schools of the county has been requested in an action brought by John A. O’Donnell of Finksburg, Md., in the Circuit Court.
The action brought in Mr. O’Donnell’s behalf by the law firm of Sachs and Sachs, charged that the school authorities are cooperating with a “religious organization or group” in distributing, causing or permitting to be distributed “copies of religious scripture, sectarian in nature.” Harry M. Sachs of the plaintiff’s counsel said that the New Testaments are being distributed to fifth grade students in the public schools and that protests by Mr. O’Donnell had failed to halt the distribution.
