French Government officials and leaders of the Czechoslovak National Council attended services in the Great Synagogue marking the 90th anniversary on Thursday of the birth of the late Thomas G. Masaryk, founder and first president of the Czechoslovak Republic.
Chief Rabbi Issaye Schwartz, in the principal address, expressed hope that the day would soon come “when the people of Masaryk, with the help of those nations which are fighting for a just cause, will regain their freedom–a freedom the basis of which is justice and the task of which is the realization of charity.”
