Mass-arrests of Jews in a number of towns in Nazi-occupied Belgium were resumed this week according to information received today by the Belgian Government-in-Exile. Large numbers of Jews were arrested by the Nazi authorities in the towns of Hasselt, Genek and other small towns.
The arrested Jews were all sent to the Neckerpoel concentration camp, near Malines, the report said. Among those arrested in Hasselt was a Jewish woman aged 81. Although she had been bed-ridden for many weeks, she was dragged from her room by the Nazis and hurled into a truck which carried the victims to the concentration camp. The incident provoked indignation among the local population.
