Although he is only twenty-two years old, Liev Kanterovich, Soviet Jewish mathematical genius, is already Professor of Mathematics at Leningrad University, head of the Leningrad Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, and has written and published forty-three mathematical treatises which have been translated into other languages. Kanterovitch is well-known in mathematical circles in Europe and the United States.
He showed remarkable ability when he was a student in elementary school and was given a scholarship to enable him to study further. He graduated from the university at seventeen. When he was twenty he was appointed professor at Leningrad University.
