Soviet Jews have received their allotment of 505 tans of flour for baking matzohs for Passover and have already begun manufacturing the first batches this week, Rabbi Pinchas Teitz, a leading member of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis, said today.
Teitz said he received a telephone call yesterday from Sholom Kleinman, president of the Moscow Synagogue, who told him that the Moscow Jewish community has been alloted 200 tons–150 tons for the city, the rest for the surrounding communities. Other allotments are: Leningrad, 70 tons; Kiev and Tiblisi in Georgia, 60 tons each; Odessa, 55 tons, Riga, 40 and Tashkent, 20. The amount of flour is more than last year, according to Teitz. He also reported that Soviet authorities last year lowered the price of flour for matzohs.
