Maurice H. Newmark, a member of one of the pioneer Jewish families of Los Angeles, died at his summer home in Santa Monica. Rabbi Maxwell Dubin, assistant Rabbi at Temple B’nai B’rith, officiated at the funeral.
The late Mr. Newmark was a member of one of the most prominent of the early Jewish settlers in Los Angeles, a grandson of Joseph Newmark, who founded Temple B’nai B’rith, and a son of Harris Newmark, who at one time was the officiating rabbi of this congregation. Mr. Newmark took a great interest in the development of the congregation and was a member of the building committee of the new structure on Wilshire Boulevard. He was keenly interested in Jewish matters and a contributor to Jewish philanthropy.
