Max M. Fisher, General Chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, left by plane today for advance discussions with leaders of European Jewish communities and Prime Minister Levi Eshkol of Israel on overseas relief and migration needs which will form the basis of next year’s UJA campaign.
During his three-week visit abroad, Mr. Fisher also will hold business conferences in connection with Israel’s petrochemical interests. A leading figure in the American oil industry, Mr. Fisher has served for more than a decade as a principal advisor to the Government of Israel on its petrochemical industry.
A group of 86 young American-Jewish community representatives from 28 cities will participate in the Sixth Annual Young Leadership Mission of the United Jewish Appeal, leaving New York on July 7, to make an intensive 26-day survey of the Jewish immigration absorption needs in Israel and the refugee aid programs in France, Italy and Greece which are aided by UJA funds. Rabbi Herbert A. Friedman, UJA executive vice-chairman, will lead the Mission, which is by invitation to young men and women in the 25 to 40 age bracket, who demonstrate “leadership potential” in their home communities. Each Mission member is paying his own way.
