Maxa Nordau Will Be Honored at Reception

Mlle, Maxa Nordau, who is concluding her visit to the United States, will leave for France on April 17th, from where she will accompany the remains of her father, the late Dr. Max Nordau, to Palestine on the steamer “Braga,” especially provided by the French Government.

In memory of the distinguished Zionist leader, Dr. Max Nordau, and to show the admiration which American Jewry feels for his daughter, the Zionist Organization of America will give a farewell reception to Mlle, Nordau on April 15th at Town Hall.

On that occasion Mlle. Nordau will speak of her impression of America. Mlle. Nordau, while in this country, lectured in various parts of the United States. An exhibition of her paintings was held at the New Galleries in New York. The evening will be in the nature of a musical and theatrical concert. David Belasco is the honorary chairman of the reception and Jacob Fishman, managing editor of the “Jewish Morning Journal,” will be chairman of the evening.

JEWISH COMMUNAL ACTIVITIES

Nine public Seders were held in Chicago, The services were conducted by rabbis.

Seders were held at Temple Mizpah community house; South Shore temple community house; Washington Boulevard Temple community house; Congregation B’nai Zion; Congregation Beth El; Temple Beth Israel; Congregation B’nai Bezalel; by the Chicago Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society; and the Young Peoples League at the Rodfei Zedek synagogue.

A campaign to raise $60,000 for erection of a building in Akron, O., to be used as a Jewish community center, was launched.

The cost of the building when completed will represent an outlay of $125,000.

M. Rivitz is president of the community center.

At the annual meeting of the Board of Jewish Education of Baltimore, Israel Silberstein was elected president for the coming year. The other officers elected were: First Vice-President, Philip Sykes; Second Vice-President, Joseph Berman; Treasurer, Herman Gamse; Secretary, Benjamin Schwartz. Mr. Silberstein and Mr. Schwartz were re-elected and the officers were elected to fill the vacancies caused by the deaths of Isaac Davidson and Mayer L. Bloom.

The Board of Jewish Education supervises all the Talmud Torahs which are supervised by the Associated Jewish Charities of Baltimore.

Sir:

In today’s paper you speak of a new railroad line which will join Haifa, Beirut, and Tripoli, thus bringing together Africa and Asia.

There are two Tripolis, one in Syria and the other in Africa. The one of Syria is not far from Beirut. The other is in Cyranaica, which is under Italian control. The line would have to cross Palestine, the Sinalan Peninsula Egypt, and Cyranaica. I think the Tripoli of Syria is referred to.
