An inquiry into the deportation of Theodor Loewy, editor and Danzig correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, will be made in the House of Commons next Tuesday by Col. Josiah Wedgwood, Laborite member.
The deportation of Mr. Loewy is a direct violation of the agreement existing between the League of Nations and the administration of the Free City, which guarantees freedom of press. Sean Lester, the League’s High Commissioner for Danzig, had intervened with the Nazi-controlled Danzig authorities against the deportation of the correspondent, but without results.
The British government may be asked to intervene in this case on the ground that the correspondent represented the London office of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, which is registered as a British company.
