A Torah scroll that was slightly damaged during the Fascist rule in Rumania and later restored by the Israeli Ministry of Religion was presented yesterday to the recently vandalized Congregation Ahavah Torah Synagogue, the Bronx. Making the presentation to Rabbi David Toiv were Mayor Teddy Kollek of Jerusalem and Rep. James Scheuer. Rabbi Toiv said the ceremony represented “the literal and dramatic fulfillment of the prophet’s foretelling: ‘For out of Zion shall go forth Torah and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.'” Rep. Scheuer, visiting Israel two months ago, had asked Mayor Kollek’s aid in replacing Ahavath Torah’s scroll.
