Mayor O’Brien Saturday was considering his decision on the protest submitted to him late Friday afternoon by a group of war veterans against the Nazi mass meeting to be held on October 29 in the 165th Regiment Armory as part of the annual celebration of German day. The veterans urged the mayor to forbid the meeting.
Among the group who advised the mayor that the rally might lead to violence and bloodshed were:
John Cronin, New York County commander of the American Legion; Edgar H. Burman, of the Jewish War Veterans of America; Arthur Hyde, commander of the Bronx Democratic Veterans Association; William Bradley, commander of the Fort Hamilton Post, American Legion; Nat Gross, commander of the Rugby Post; Cornelius Bregoff, past commander of the Richmond County Legion; Abraham Kraditor, past commander of Post 224, Veterans of Foreign Wars; John F. Henry, past state inspector, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and I. N. Sussman of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
