Mayor Robert F. Wagner lit today a torch which will be used to open the Maccabiah Festival in this city next Sunday. At the same time, the Mayor issued a proclamation designating Sunday Maccabiah Day.
Shalom Kahalin, champion marathon runner of Israel, accepted the torch from the Mayor. The athlete will run with the torch from City Hall Sunday to the stadium in Brooklyn where the track and field events will take place. The festival is sponsored by the American Zionist Youth Council, representing ten national Zionist groups.
