A 5.2 pound baby girl was born by Caesarian section to Avital Shcharansky, wife of Soviet Jewry activist Natan Shcharansky, at Misgay Ladach Hospital here Thursday morning. It is the first child of the couple who were reunited last February after Natan spent nine years in Soviet prisons and labor camps.
The proud father told reporters at the hospital shortly after the birth that his daughter is “a very beautiful little girl.” He went so far as to say she is “an exact copy” of her dad. The infant will be named at a religious ceremony this Sabbath.
