Donald McHenry, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, who is scheduled to leave Saturday for the Mideast for a two-week seven-nation tour, met today with Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Yehuda Blum, to discuss the situation in the region. The meeting was held at the Israeli official’s residence here because he is confined to bed with the flu.
McHenry will start his visit, his first to the region since he replaced Andrew Young as UN Ambassador, in Egypt and from there he will go to Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. In a statement issued here, the American Mission said the purpose of McHenry’s trip is to explore “substantive, bilateral and regional issues of concern particularly as they bear on the Ambassador’s responsibilities at the UN.” The statement also said McHenry will meet with “key leaders” of the area.
