Mayoralty candidate Joseph V. McKee was absolved from charges of religious prejudice which have been his bugaboo for three weeks, by a memorial bearing the signatures of eighty-six leading Jewish residents of the Bronx.
The signers declared they are “aghast at the spectacle of this unspeakable attempt to besmirch the good name” of Mr. McKee.
Carl M. Loeb, former president of the American Metal Company, in a letter to the McKee campaign committee, said: “I hope that New Yorkers of the Jewish faith in casting their vote at the coming election will permit no consideration other than fitness for the office.”
