FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE OF RUMANIAN BAR ASSOCIATIONS, MEDICAL UNIONS TODAY LAUNCHED A VIGOROUS CAMPAIGN FOR RESTRICTION OF JEWS IN THE PROFESSION.

A CONGRESS OF THE INFLUENTIAL ASSOCIATION OF HOSPITAL INTERNES ADOPTED A RESOLUTION DEMANDING “ROMANIZATION” OF THE MEDICAL PROFESSION, LISTING THE FOLLOWING MAJOR REQUESTS:

1. THAT ONLY CHRISTIAN DOCTORS BE EMPLOYED BY THE GOVERNMENT AND MUNICIPALITIES, AND JEWISH DOCTORS BE NOT PERMITTED TO PRACTICE IN CHRISTIAN HOSPITALS;

2. THAT A NUMERUS CLAUSUS BE INSTITUTED IN UNIVERSITIES;

3. THAT DOCTORS HOLDING FOREIGN DIPLOMAS BE FORBIDDEN TO PRACTICE IN RUMANIA;

4. RE-EXAMINATION OF ALL MEDICAL DIPLOMAS OBTAINED IN FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES AFTER 1918.

THE FOURTH REQUEST HAS ALREADY BEEN PUT INTO EFFECT BY THE RUMANIAN GOVERNMENT, WHICH HAS ORDERED RE-EXAMINATION OF FOREIGN DIPLOMAS ON THE ALLEGATION THAT MANY WERE SPURIOUS. A MAJORITY OF THE AFFECTED DOCTORS ARE JEWS WHO WERE FORCED TO STUDY ABROAD BECAUSE OF ANTI-SEMITIC TERRORISM AT RUMANIAN COLLEGES.
