A crowded East End meeting heard Lord Melchett, prominent industrialist and Jewish leader, describe Sir Oswald Mosley as a “fancy Pharaoh, a hobbledehoy Hitler who spends his time attacking Jews, of whom he should know a great deal since his wife was a Jewess and his children have Jewish blood in their veins.”
The meeting, held last night, was called in honor of Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency for Palestine, in London to confer on plans to aid German Jews.
Replying to Mosley’s attack on Jews in his Albert Hall address Sunday night, Lord Melchett declared he wasn’t presuming to advise East Enders how to protect their interests, but could assure them that Mosley’s conduct disgusted the people of the country.
Palestine land can accommodate 70,000 families within the next fifteen years, Dr. Weizmann told the meeting. Reviewing the Palestine situation, he declared that these settlers would provide room for three times their number in other walks of life.
