The march of the nations in Belvidere Stadium here yesterday afternoon marked the close of the Maccabiade, Jewish Olympics sports festival. Sturdy Jewish athletes of a score of nations, filed past the reviewing stand behind the Czechoslovakian flag and under a veritable sea of blue and white pennants—Zionist colors.
Lord Melchett of England, honorary president of the world Maccabee organization, Lady Erleigh, his sister, and Nahum Sokolow, president of the World Zionist Organization, reviewed the athletes’ march. Lord Melchett wore the blue and white Maccabean uniform.
Trophies to the winning Austrian, Czechoslovakian, British, Polish, Hungarian and Palestinian Maccabee squads were presented by Lord Melchett and Lady Erleigh. In brief addresses, Dr. Sokolow and Lord Melchett congratulated the contestants for their display of athletic prowess and Jewish muscle. The entire scene was filmed by motion picture cameras.
