Many prominent members of the Arab Executive and of the Moslem Supreme Council are now frantically offering land for sale cheaply fearing that impending legislation will completely prevent all land sales. Leading members of the Executive and the Council today admitted that legislation preventing land sales would hit many of them who are among the principal landowners of the country.
On the other hand more moderate Arab leaders are frank to confess that the country would return to its prewar dereliction if the Jews suspended further activity. They deprecate the Arab extremists’ insincere insistence on unachievable independence and add that reasonable Arabs are prepared to come to terms with the Jews and ready to pave a way for collaboration with or without the assistance of the British.
