The Eisenhower Administration was under heavy pressure from both parties to drop the Navy policy supporting the Arab boycott against Israel and similar pressure from the Arabian-American Oil Company (ARAMCO) to maintain the policy.

Senator Hugh D. Scott and Rep. John A, Lafore, both Philadelphia Republicans, added their voices to the growing list of Democrats opposing cancelation clauses in contracts for transport of oil for the Navy. These clauses, in effect, foreclose bidding on such contracts by American shipowners who have done business with Israel.

The Navy was reportedly sticking to its position, a stand being supported strongly by ARAMCO representatives, the combine now negotiating a new contract with Saudi Arabia. ARAMCO representatives were understood to have warned the Navy that continued delivery of oil to United States bases in the Middle East depends on friendship with the Arab League.
