Members of Israel’s defense establishment believe the government should be more flexible regarding which Palestinian prisoners it frees, according to the Israeli daily Ha’aretz. The officials reportedly support bending the criteria, which currently bar the release of any prisoner with “blood on his hands.” The proposal was made because of concerns that a prolonged dispute with the Palestinian Authority over prisoner releases could interfere with implementation of the Wye accord.
