A memorial light has been dedicated here in tribute to the 6,000,000 Jews who perished in Europe during World War II. Such memorials have been dedicated in more than 500 Jewish centers of worship, but Fort Knox is believed to be the first military reservation having one. More than 100 persons, members of the Fort Knox Jewish Congregation and friends, attended the dedication service at the Eleventh Avenue Chapel. The light, similar to those in synagogues throughout the world, has six branches in mounting flames, symbolizing the 6,000,000 martyrs. The Fort Knox congregation observed Holocaust Day earlier this month with the recitation of special memorial Psalms and special readings from Holocaust literature. Fort Knox maintains close ties with the Jewish community of Louisville through the Armed Services Committee of the Jewish Community Center.
