A memorial meeting for the late Prof. Albert Einstein sponsored jointly by the American Friends of the Hebrew University, American Technion Society and American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science, will take place tomorrow at the Kaufmann Auditorium of the YMHA-YWHA here. The main topic of the meeting will be “The Guiding Spirit of Israel’s Institutions of Higher Learning.”
Dr. George S. Wise, chairman of the board of governors of the Hebrew University, will preside. Speakers on behalf of the three sponsoring organizations will be: Dr. Israel S. Wechsler, honorary president of the Friends of the Hebrew University; Abraham Tulin, vice president of the Technion Society and Dewey D. Stone, chairman of the board of the Committee for the Weizmann Institute. Dr. Henry Semat, Professor of Physics at the City College of New York, and Dr. Israel Goldstein president of the American Jewish Congress, will speak about “Professor Einstein the Scientist” and “Professor Einstein, the Devoted Friend of Israel,” respectively. A musical program of selections of Prof. Einstein’s favorite compositions will be played by a trio of Israel artists.
June 1955 marks the 30th anniversary of Einstein’s theory of relativity. The close relationship of Prof. Einstein to science and higher learning in Israel has led him to give the original manuscripts of this theory and of his theory of gravity to the Jewish National and University Library in Jerusalem.
