A memorial service was held at the Safad cemetery on the first anniversary– according to the Jewish calendar– of the school bus incident when Arab terrorists killed eight school children and six adults while on a bus to school from the Avivim village on the Lebanese border. Bereaved parents and children as well as representatives of the border police, of the local councils in the region and of the moshavim movement, attended the ceremony officiated by Rabbi Menahem Masoud of Avivim. Candles were lit and a seven-year-old boy whose father, Mahlouf Beton, was one of the bus passengers killed in the ambush, recited the kaddish.
