Memorial services were held here and in Montreal today and in London yesterday for Pinhas Sapir. In New York, the service, held in the Jewish Agency building, was attended by the staffs of the World Zionist Organization-American Section constituents and other Jewish organizations in the building, as well as Israeli consulate personnel. Memorial services, at which the New York Jewish community will be invited, are being planned for “shloshim.”
In Montreal, a memorial service was held at the Zionist Center arranged by the Canadian Zionist Federation. Representatives of all Zionist organizations, the Canadian Jewish Congress, United Israel Appeal of Canada and the Israeli consulate attended. A meeting was held after the services and plans were made for memorial services across Canada including a special memorial session to be held at the CZF national aliya conference in October,
In London yesterday a memorial meeting was held in Rex House, the center of British Zionism. Leaders of the Zionist community and the Israel Embassy attended. The Zionist Federation and the Board of Deputies of British Jews issued statements expressing grief over Mr. Sapir’s death and recalling his lifetime of devotion to the Zionist cause and Israel.
