Memorial Services for Sharett Arranged Throughout U.S. on ‘shloshim’

1,000 leaders from all walks of American Jewish life are expected to attend memorial services here for the late Moshe Sharett at the Park Avenue Synagogue, next Monday evening under the joint auspices of the American Zionist Council and the American Section of the Jewish Agency for Israel. The memorial will mark the end of the traditional “Shloshim.” the 30-day mourning period. Similar memorial services will also be held throughout the country.

Speakers participating in the New York tribute to Mr. Sharett, which will be open to the public, will be Avraham Harman, Israel Ambassador to the United States, who will officially represent the government of Israel; Dr. Emanuel Neumann, chairman, and Mrs. Rose L. Halprin, of the Jewish Agency-American Section; Nathaniel S. Rothenberg, chairman of the administrative committee of the American Zionist Council; and Jacob Katzman, general secretary of the Farband-Labor Zionist Order, speaking for the Labor Zionist Movement in the United States.

Meetings have also been scheduled throughout the country by the American Zionist Council and its local affiliates in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and other communities. A meeting was held today in Chicago.

The Philadelphia meeting will take place Sunday evening, at the Germantown Jewish Center. Speakers will be Yissakhar Ben Yaacov, Israel Consul in Philadelphia; former Judge Nochem S. Winnet, president of Philadelphia Federation of Jewish Agencies; and Rabbi Elias Charry, chairman of the Philadelphia Zionist Council. The Pittsburgh meeting will be held Tuesday evening, at the Hebrew Institute of Pittsburgh.
