Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day, commemorating the martyred victims of Nazi persecution, opened here tonight with a youth rally on Har Hazikaron and with rallies and services throughout the country. Movie houses and other entertainment places will be closed. Tomorrow morning a blast of sirens will mark the beginning of five minutes of silence in memory of the dead.
In the afternoon, a memorial service will be held in Martyrs Forest in the Jerusalem Corridor and another service will take place at Kibbutz Maaleh Hachamishah in the presence of President Izhak Ben-Zvi. Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Nissim, Jerusalem Mayor Mordechai Ish-Shalom, Cabinet Ministers, members of the Knesset and the Jewish Agency executive and the Diplomatic Corps. All mail will be post-marked with a special Memorial Day stamp.
