The direct descendents, now all Christians, of Moses Mendelsohn, German Jewish philosopher and leader of the school of enlightenment in Central and East European Jewry, decided to honor his memory on the occasion of the two-hundredth anniversary of his birth on September 6, 1929.
Jewish societies and groups in various parts of the world are preparing to commemorate the occasion. Mendelsohn’s heirs, under the leadership of Franz Mendelsohn, president of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce, have decided to establish a fund of a quarter of a million Marks to be used for scientific purposes. The fund is to be administered under the direction of Prof. Adolf von Harnack, Christian theologian.
