The merger of Jewish welfare fund activities with community war chests, which has been put into effect in several cities, would have an adverse effect on certain aspects of Jewish philanthropic activities, especially those of a cultural nature and oversees relief, declares Jacob Fishman, writing in the Jewish Morning Journal.
Mr. Fishman states that the same reasons which actuated the Red Cross to reject the proposal to join the war chest plan are equally valid for the Jewish welfare federations and such bodies as the JDS and the United Palestine Appeal, which are faced with specific and peculiar ideas and ideals that would suffer from amalgamation in a single war chest.
