A special meeting of the Board of Jewish Deputies was held here to pay tribute to the late Lucien Wolf who was secretary of the Joint Foreign Committee of the Board and of the Anglo-Jewish Association. O. E. d’Avigdor Goldsmid, president of the Board and vice-president of the Anglo-Jewish Association; Leonard G. Montefiore, president of the Anglo-Jewish Association, and Morris Myer spoke.
A resolution expressing sorrow at Mr. Wolf’s death and praising the services he rendered not only to world Jewry but to oppressed minorities, homeless refugees and persons deprived of citizenship by the War, was passed by the members of the Board standing in silent tribute.
Messages of condolence at the passing of Mr. Wolf, who had come to be known as the foreign minister of the Jews, are pouring in from all parts of the world. Messages were received today from the American Jewish Committee, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, the Roumanian charge d’affairs, the International Migration Service at Geneva, various Jewish communities in all parts of the world, the foreign ministers of various countries, Dr. Bernard Kahn, European director of the Joint Distribution Committee, the Hias, the Jewish Colonization Association, and the director of the Minorities Section of the League of Nations.
