The generosity of East End Jews was warmly praised at the annual meeting of the London Methodist Mission when a missioner from the East End described how Jews, after air raids, packed stores and stocks on barrows and trundled them to the settlement, turning them over to the warden with the words, “Take it, sir.”
The speaker also praised the East Enders’ courage and self denial in rescuing people from damaged buildings despite falling bombs.
