The Mexican press has prominently reported a statement signed by 60 of this country’s outstanding writers and artists calling on the Soviet Union to halt discrimination against Soviet Jewry, to give the Jews their rights as a national, religious and ethnic minority and to permit those Jews desirous of emigrating permission to leave the country. Signatories to the manifesto included Dr. Luis Garrido, former dean of the Mexican National University; Pedro Gringoire, a Protestant leader and one of the country’s best known journalists; and Dr. Raul Carranca Rivas, noted jurist.
