Mexico Believed Ready to Oppose Partition at Geneva

MEXICAN REPRESENTATIVES AT GENEVA WILL OPPOSE THE PARTITION OF PALESTINE, PROPOSED BY GREAT BRITAIN, AT LEAGUE OF NATIONS SESSIONS, IT WAS BELIEVED TODAY.

PRESIDENT LAZARO CARDENAS SENT A TELEGRAM TO THE JEWISH COMMUNITY GIVING ASSURANCE THAT MEXICAN DELEGATES AT GENEVA WILL EXPRESS OPINIONS ” IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE STANDARDS OF JUSTICE.” THE MESSAGE WAS IN REPLY TO A MEMORANDUM TELEGRAPHED TO HIM BY A RALLY SPONSORED BY LOCAL JEWISH GROUPS IN OPPOSITION TO THE DIVISION OF PALESTINE. THE PRESIDENT’S TELEGRAM SAID:

“THE GOVERNMENT WHICH I HEAD WILL ASK ITS REPRESENTATIVES TO EXPRESS, WHEN THE OCCASION ARISES, AN ATTITUDE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ITS OBLIGATIONS AS A MEMBER OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE STANDARDS OF JUSTICE WHICH HAVE ALWAYS INSPIRED THE INTERNATIONAL ACTIONS OF THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT.”
