Meyer L. Brown, long-time labor Zionist leader, and honorary president of the Farband Labor Zionist Order, died in Maimonides Hospital today after a stroke last Friday. He was 77.
Born in Bialystok, he came to the United States in 1901, attending Temple University in Philadelphia and Valparaiso University in Indiana. He served as president of Farband from 1922 to 1933, when he was named honorary president. He was a director of the Judea Insurance Company of Palestine and a co-founder of the Hassneh Insurance Company of Palestine.
He served as chairman of the Jewish Teachers Institute and Peoples Sominary from 1941 to 1962 and was secretary of the Labor Zionist movement of American from 1908 and 1909 and 1931 to 1933. He was the author of several books and a frequent contributor to Farband and other Yiddish publications.
