The Michelson tests of the speed of light have been substantiated in new experiments just completed at Pasadena, Calfornia, Professor Albert A. Michelson, of the University of Chicago, has announced, an Ashiciated Press detpaich from Pasadena states.
News of the experiments came as Professor Michelson prepared t leave next Saturday for Chicago, where he will resume his lecture courses at the University of Chicago on October 1.
The speed of light was estimated by the physicist to be approximately 186,284 miles a second. Had the accuracy of the regional experiments here two years ago been known then, further tests never would have been necessary, Professor Michelson said.
The scientist came here about a month and a half ago to carry on new experiments. The exact methods of these tests were not revealed.
The original Michelson theory of the speed of light generally has been recognized as the basis for the Einstein theory of relativity. About a year ago other scientists reported tests which tended to contradict Michelson’s experiments.
