Michigan Attorney General Paul L. Adams has ruled that religious teachings in public schools in Michigan violates both the state and federal constitutions. The ruling required 23 teachers in various counties who have been conducting Bible classes to end such classes.

The ruling also was seen as a warning to other Michigan school boards to avoid introduction of religious teachings in public schools. It’ appeared likely that the ruling also will lead to raising constitutional questions about procedures of teachers who read Bible passages to pupils regularly.
