Middle class Jews and other “non-productive elements ” in Bucharest have been instructed by the Rumanian authorities to be prepared for “compulsory transfer” to labor camps in the Black Sea region, according to reports published in several newspapers here.
The Neue Wiener Tageszeitung estimates that between 10,000 and 20,000 persons will be affected. It says that the identification cards of all residents in the Rumania capital were collected and stamped by the police authorities. At that time the middle class Jews, former state officials and former industrialists were told that they will be moved form the city, the report said.
